Historic Lewes

The city of Lewes, Delaware has grown a lot since its establishment on June 3, 1631. Originally a whaling and trading post, the town was built up and destroyed various times between 1632 and 1818 when it was finally incorporated by an act of state assembly on February 2, 1818.
